With the advent of the 3G network, ISP’s(Internet Service Providers) all across Australia can and do offer free broadband access as a part of a ‘bundle’ with their home phone connection. So basically, if you pay for the phone, you get the broadband access free.

Using this facility you can surf the internet for free, download stuff and at the same time save on your monthly telephone bills. This can be done as companies usually offer free callings for some minutes in such bundled packages.

But take care; your broadband would only be really free if the phone plan it comes with suits you and your requirements. If your phone bill increase substantially, it might not be worth going for such a bundle. So, instead of just searching for companies advertising with the claims ‘free internet’ and ‘free broadband’, you should calculate the total cost, i.e. phone plus internet and then decide on the plan to go for.

A few of the service providers currently offering free broadband packages are-

  • Virgin broadband- Virgin broadband is offering a free broadband connection if you get a home phone from them. The typical download speed is 512 kbps and the download limit is 2 GB.
  • Dodo- Dodo too is providing a free download connection if you switch your home phone over to them. The broadband offer includes 150MB of usage divided 50:50 between peak and non-peak hours.
  • Optus- Optus, one of the largest internet service providers in Australia has also come out with a free broadband connection. It also offers special deals to customers having both their mobile as well as their internet connection.
